Special issues

connexions • international professional communication journal | revista de comunicação profissional internacional places great emphasis on Special Issues as a unique means of promoting high-quality research in thematic areas related to international professional communication.

The journal is accepting proposals from Guest Editors for:

  • Special Issue 1(2): December 2012
  • Special Issue 2(1): June 2013
  • Special Issue 2(2): December 2013
  • Special Issue 3(2): December 2014

Issue 3(1): June 2014 will be composed of regular submissions.

This page provides guidelines to help you organize proposals for Special Issues.

General requirements

  • Special Issues are organized by a minimum of 2, and a maximum of 3 Guest Editors.
  • Guest Editors are recognized experts in the area they are proposing for the Special Issue.
  • Guest Editors are from different institutions and, preferably, countries.
  • Special Issues reflect the international aims and scope of the journal. Therefore, Special Issues include a maximum of 3 papers from a particular country. Normally, the journal publishes 5 to 7 papers per issue.

Guest Editor responsibilities

  1. Prepare a Special Issue proposal, and send it to the journal Editor at  editor@connexionsjournal.org.
  2. Once the proposal has been approved, announce the CFP (call for papers) on websites and distribution lists, and contact potential authors directly.
  3. Send manuscript abstracts to 2 reviewers. Send each manuscript with the journal’s Abstract Review Form, which you obtain from the journal Editor.
  4. Receive the abstract review reports, make a decision about its status (accept, reject), notify the authors about the decision, and ask them to confirm if they wish to submit the full manuscript.
  5. Upon receiving confirmation, send authors the guidelines for preparing full manuscripts.
  6. Receive full manuscripts, and screen them for adherence to the Special Issues’ specifications, the journal’s aims and scope, and the full manuscript submission guidelines.
  7. Send full manuscripts to 3 reviewers, with the journal’s Manuscript Review Form that you obtain from the journal Editor.
  8. Receive the full manuscript review reports, make a decision about its status (accept, accept with minor changes, accept with major revisions and a second round of review, decline), and notify the manuscript author(s) about the decision.
  9. Prepare an introduction/editorial for the Special Issue.
  10. Follow the review cycles to the final version of accepted papers.
  11. Avoid conflicts of interest, and ensure that authors observe the copyright, and research involving human subjects policies of the journal.
  12. Ensure that final versions of the manuscripts are in the format required by the journal.
  13. Submit the final versions of the manuscripts to the journal Editor at least 45 days before the publishing date.

Special Issue proposals

Special Issue proposals include:

  1. Name, affiliation, address, phone, email, and web page of each Guest Editor.
  2. Half to one page biography and list of publications of each Guest Editor.
  3. Call for Papers for the Special Issue, containing:
    1. working title for the Special Issue,
    2. overview of the area and list of specific topics to be addressed in the Special Issue, showing how the proposed Special Issue is distinct from existing publications, and CFPs on the same or closely related topics,
    3. statement of relevance and contribution of the Special Issue to international professional communication,
    4. description of how and where the CFP will be announced,
    5. description of potential manuscripts and authors to include in the Special Issue (please make sure (a) the authors and manuscripts reflect the international aims and scope of the journal, (b) the manuscripts make a new contribution to the field),
    6. list of potential reviewers for the Special Issue,
    7. time frame for the Special Issue, with specific dates:
      1. CFP (call for papers),
      2. submission deadline of manuscript abstracts,
      3. notification of acceptance,
      4. submission deadline of full manuscripts,
      5. expected date of publication.

The Editor, in consultation with the Associate Editors and Regional Editors, and, if necessary, other experts in the topic, will select the Special Issues.
